Infertility Solved Through Adult Stem Cell Therapy
A woman who couldn't have a child due to infertility problems is now pregnant after stem cell therapy in which she had her own adult stem cells implanted in her womb for
endometrium regeneration.
Endometrium Growth Enabled By Stem Cells
Poonam, age 31, of Kutch, India, had no endometrium growth and thus was unable to have children, even through IVF. Surrogate mothering was suggested, but Poonam wanted to give birth to a baby herself.

is the first successful case of pregnancy conceived through stem cell therapy for endometrium generation.
"This pregnancy promises a breakthrough in treating women who suffer infertility due to poor endometrium growth. In fact, majority of women who are forced to opt for surrogacy suffer from this problem and will be able to avoid hiring a surrogate," says Dr Nagori.
Process of Stem Cell Treatment For Infertility:
- Bone Marrow Was Removed And Sent To A Lab Where Adult Stem Cells Were Grown
- Uterus lining of Poonam was cleaned up and stem cells transplanted into her uterine cavity under the guidance of sonography.
- We had to give her estrogen to give the right push to stem cells to generate into endometrium.
"We had to give her estrogen to give the right push to stem cells to generate into endometrium. In three months time, Poonam had got a 6 mm lining which was good enough to proceed with IVF," says Dr Nagori.
"This treatment would give boost to a lot of women who do not want surrogacy and want to experience childbirth. In many cases, endometrium fails to grow if there have been cleaning up of the uterus too often or due to chronic infections," says Dr Panchal.
Stem Cell Research For Endometrium Regeneration
This is the first I have heard of adult stem cell treatment and research for infertility and endometrium growth. It makes common sense. The endometrium is the lining of the uterus. This tissue is shed every month during a woman's menstrual period. Then, the endometrium is regrown until the next menstrual period until it is shed again.
If endometrium is not regenerated, then that woman is unable to conceive as endometrium is necessary for the embryo to implant in the uterus and grow as a normal fetus.
Enter Adult Stem Cells! The patient's own repair mechanisms, her stem cells from her bone marrow were drawn and multiplied. These stem cells were then implanted where they were needed- in this case the endometrium. And the adult stem cells did what they were born to do-- repair and regenerate.
No Embryonic Stem Cells Involved!

adult stem cells were used. Embryonic stem cells were not involved in any way in this therapy.
